Efficient modulation frequency doubling by induced modulation instability
Please cite this article in press as: S. Wabnitz, N We show that inducing modulation instability with a weak modulation whose frequency is such that its second harmonic falls within the band of instability may lead to asynchronous Fermi–Pasta–Ulam recurrence and efficient transfer of power from the pump into the second harmonic of the modulation, resulting in a periodic modulation at the second...
متن کاملInvestigation of Scalar Modulation Instability in the Presence of Raman Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fibers
In this paper, by including Raman scattering in the coupled-mode equations, the scalar modulation instability in photonic crystal fibers is investigated. The evolution of the pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves along the fiber as well as the conversion efficiency for two cases, with and without Raman effect, are studied. The effect of anti-Stokes seed and the pump depletion on the evolution of S...
متن کاملInduced modulation instability and recurrence in nonlocal nonlinear media
The long-term behaviour of spatial modulation instability in nonlocal nonlinear Kerr media is studied theoretically and numerically. Seeding the modulation instability with a periodic modulation leads to an energy transfer to higher-order modes and the long-term behaviour of the system shows the Fermi–Pasta–Ulam recurrence. For large spatial frequencies, close to the cut-off frequency, the stab...
متن کاملYtterbium gain band self-induced modulation instability laser.
We demonstrate an ytterbium gain band self-induced modulation instability laser. A highly nonlinear holey fiber is used to provide the anomalous dispersion required for bright soliton generation at 1 microm. The all-fiber integrated source yields a 40 GHz train of 4 ps pulses at a wavelength of 1064 nm.
متن کاملInduced modulation instability and recurrence in nematic liquid crystals.
We study induced modulation instability in a nematic liquid crystal cell. Two broad elliptical beams along one direction are launched into the cell. The two beams have slightly different angle in order to create a sinusoidally varying intensity at the entrance of the cell. In this way, the gain of perturbations with different spatial frequency is investigated. The evolution of the optical patte...
